- Project Type: Multi-Family Home, Affordable Housing
- Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Caddis worked as cohousing architects with local Pittsburgh architecture firm Lab|8 Designs to design this cohousing project. Currently unbuilt, the project was planned to be located in the East Liberty Neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The design brought cohousing principles to a wonderful community development organization. East Liberty Development, Inc., collaborates with neighborhood stakeholders to create positive change in the community. The vision is a safe and vibrant mixed-income community.
The goal was to create an adaptive reuse project for low-income, affordable housing. Retrofitting an existing building – in this case an apartment building – can be a viable way to keep the carbon footprint of your new community very low and to fit the project into an existing neighborhood’s fabric, benefiting from mature trees, traditional front porches, and social capital.
