Stephen Hunter’s bestselling 1993 thriller, Point of Impact, is Caddis Collaborative job captain Brandon Farrand’s favorite book – one he has read quite a few times.

The book’s main character, Bob Lee Swagger, is a retired U.S. Marines sniper who served in the Vietnam War. Swagger is one of the deadliest snipers in history. He is set up by a corrupt government contracting group and goes through a number of experiences to prove his innocence. He uses his incredible skills to stay alive while being hunted by this government group, which wants him dead. Hunter’s book – and his subsequent novels about Swagger – were so successful that they became the inspiration of the movie Shooter and a television series of the same name.

Point of Impact, says Brandon, is a compelling read: it’s “pretty nonstop action,” with “twists and turns throughout the entire book.” Just when “you think you have it figured out,” you discover “that you don’t,” Brandon says.

The subject matter appeals to Brandon, especially Hunter’s technical focus on the math and physics involved in precision shooting. In addition, says Brandon, “I love our country, and this book is a tribute to the people who dedicate their lives to the country, such as military personnel, fire fighters, and first responders.”

“I learned how to stand up for what you believe in just as Bob Lee Swagger did,” Brandon says of Hunter’s novel. “Swagger goes to great lengths to prove his innocence and to protect his honor and the honor of his loved ones.”

Brandon gives Point of Impact a five-star rating and highly recommends it if you’re looking for a book with a fast pace and a compelling story.
