Snowpine Lodge is a renovation and addition project on an existing and well-loved historic ski lodge.
Only 25 minutes outside of Salt Lake City, the family-owned lodge is located at the base of Alta’s ski areas and provides direct access to the lifts. Now with 78 new rooms and 19 new dorm beds, the renovated lodge includes cozy lounge areas, standard guest rooms, family suites, employee housing, a full-service restaurant and bar, a spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a game room, conference and event rooms, retail space, a private ski club, and lockers for the ski-in, ski-out facility. It is also used as an outdoor event venue, so the common spaces were designed to embrace the amazing natural environment.
In redesigning the facility, Snowpine’s owners wanted to keep the charm of the historic lodge, especially the original stone masonry structure and also wanted to maintain an alpine aesthetic for the exteriors. In addition, the design had to meet strict approval requirements as well as hold up to snow country design standards. The very challenging mountain slope meant that we had to consider the realities of being struck by avalanches.
