- Project Type: Cohousing, Multi Family
- Location: Truckee, California
Truckee River Cohousing was designed to be nestled in along the beautiful Truckee River, just 15 miles from its source at the world-renowned Lake Tahoe in the California Sierra Nevada mountain range. The proposed 2.36-acre community consisted of 35 one- to three-bedroom flats and townhomes for families and singles of all ages, ranging from 576 square feet to 1584 square feet with a 2,400-square-foot Common House. The total project floor area was 48,000 square feet. A beautiful courtyard opened onto the riverfront and highlighted the connections between the homes and the river.
Truckee, California, is a mountain town of 16,000, located 35 miles from Reno, Nevada. The cohousing community related to a downtown river revitalization project intended to make the riverfront more walkable, bikeable, and ecologically sustainable while providing mixed-income housing for locals. The site is less than a mile from historic downtown Truckee, with a beautiful river and bike paths right outside future residents’ front doors.
The cohousing community reclaimed a brownfield site that had historically been used for industrial purposes. Intended to be a mixed-use community as a component of a larger development, the design offered coworking spaces as well as the usual common amenities associated with cohousing.
