Located in a century-old miner’s cabin in downtown Boulder, River and Woods restaurant specializes in locally sourced, elevated, delicious comfort food. They call it “Colorado comfort cuisine,” food that is “at once wholly familiar and infused with innovation.”
The cabin once housed John’s Restaurant, one of Boulder’s first fine dining establishments. When he retired, Chef John and his family wanted to ensure that the cabin would continue this legacy – “an authentic space where the community could come to connect through great food.”
River and Woods is continuing that tradition. It’s a joint endeavor of Chef Daniel Asher and Josh Dinar. Asher has spearheaded some of Denver’s liveliest and buzz-worthy restaurants, including root down, linger, and Ophelia’s. Dinar is a co-owner of Boulder eatery T|ACO, a co-founder of Boulder’s Restaurant Week, and publisher of DiningOut magazine.
The food is great (of course!), but the setting is exceptional. Part of the construction includes timber from a local silver mine.

Caddis Collaborative was pivotal in the reoccupation of this building as a restaurant. This process involved dealing with a slew of city regulations and thorny entitlement issues. In the end, the project was successful, and the finish came out great!
