Cohousing + Cooperative Living

Urban Cohousing: Eight Case Studies

With the desire to conserve land, water, and energy, enjoy walkable neighborhoods, and support efficient urban transit systems, more and more cohousing communities are springing up in cities across North America. Our “Cohousing Case Studies” report features eight urban communities. We were involved with the development of two of the communities: Germantown Commons Cohousing in Nashville and Silver Sage Village Cohousing in Boulder.

Memel, South Africa: What Else Can Happen When You’re Building Homes

In 2012, Caddis Collaborative was hired to design a cohousing project in Memel, South Africa, and cohousing-inspired dwellings in the nearby black township of Zamani. Principal architect Bryan Bowen traveled to Memel and Zamani several times and became immersed in both communities, and over the years other Caddis staff have become involved with numerous community projects in Memel and Zamani.
