New Urban Townhome Remodel

This remodel illustrates the modification and customization of a repeated unit type in a cohousing development. The owners of this 18-foot-wide townhome wanted something unique to them, and the resulting design shows what’s possible in a small unit with just 1,175 feet above grade and a 500-square-foot basement.

Changes to the original design include a south-facing window seat bump-out; a reimagined kitchen with upgraded appliances and more efficient use of the space; a glass stair wall that opens up the visual sightline of the space; and new finishes, including American clay plaster and lush, natural materials. Importantly, the remodel took the home to all-electric.
