Caddis Collaborative is pleased to announce that our own Kristen Uitto, principal architect at Caddis, was featured as part of AIA Colorado’s “Women in Architecture Projection.” Hosted by the organization’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusiveness Committee, the exhibit ran throughout the entire month of October 2020 in downtown Denver.
Female and nonbinary AIA members were recognized in an outdoor projection-mapping exhibit honoring women in architecture as part of Denver Theatre District’s “Night Lights Denver” project on the 16th Street Mall. According to the exhibit website, the montage was designed to recognize the presence of women in the field of architecture across Colorado, celebrate their contributions, inspire future architects, and change a culture through representation. Just 30 percent of AIA Colorado members are female or nonbinary.
AIA Colorado projected the faces of female and nonbinary architects and the buildings they’ve helped design onto the Daniels & Fisher Clocktower via 10 projectors and 210,000 Lumens. Those who wanted to see the projection could go the 16th Street Mall to look at the Clocktower – or they could watch a livestream on YouTube. “It felt really good to see this collection of women architects,” Kristen says. “The awareness that women are involved in the architecture industry is important.”
Reflecting on her successful career as a woman in architecture, Kristen says, “There are a lot of us. We’re there. We’re doing it.”
